Update from the Socrates Club

The Socrates Club rounded off a successful first year with a garden party at the Chaplaincy (which included lawn bowls and vintage jazz from a wind-up gramophone!) and a final Monday meeting with a special guest speaker – the Bishop of Crediton, Bob Evens.

Bishop Bob is a good friend of the school and one of the most popular people in North Devon! Having led the licensing service for our Chaplain on Speech Day at the beginning of the school year, Bishop Bob was keen to return before his retirement this summer, to share in prayer, fellowship and discussion.

The lunchtime meeting attracted a wide age-range of students including some Year 13s bravely making time in the midst of their revision programme and final school exams. The topic: "What on Earth is the Church For?" prompted lively discussion, with Bishop Bob as keen to listen and learn from our students as we were to listen and learn from him.

Bishop Bob will be back in a few weeks for the school Confirmation Service in East Buckland Parish Church.
