Open Days & Visits

At West Buckland, it could be said that every day is an open day. Rather than organise special days when the school is ‘on show’ to visitors, we prefer to invite parents and pupils to visit on an ordinary working day. This will enable them to see us as we really are, to see children and staff at work and to get a real sense of our particular atmosphere and ethos. Our experience is that most parents prefer this.

Visits can be organised very easily by contacting the Prep School secretary on 01598 760629.

While many parents bring their children with them, some prefer not to have them with them on their first visit. In some cases, this would be because they would not wish to raise a child’s hopes of coming to West Buckland if it may not be possible for financial or other reasons.

For some children, their first visit to the school might be a ‘taster day’ when they spend a normal day with a pupil of their own age, getting involved in lessons and other activities as if they were already a member of the school. That gives them an excellent experience of what it is like to be a pupil here. This would enable them to experience many aspects of life on the whole campus, and to meet many children who they would be within the Prep School.

Activity and Open Day

In November each year we invite children from other schools to take part in our Activity and Open Day, giving them the opportunity to see the school and to learn more about what we offer here.

The programme is structured so that you and your child may participate in as many of the day’s events as you wish. At the beginning of the morning programme there is a short briefing for parents, where you will have a chance to meet the Senior School Headmaster, the Prep School Head and other members of staff.

Parents not wishing to be involved in activities may leave their children and collect them at the end of the event. The children (and their parents if they would like) will join the school for lunch.
