2010

West Buckland School’s under 15 hockey team won the North Devon hockey final in February.

After beating Bideford College 6-0 and Pilton 1-0 they met the hosts of the tournament Park School in the final.  Some superb play was displayed in midfield from the captain Sophy Crane and Katie Hartnoll who put in great crosses from the right for Isobel Moore to convert into goals.  West Buckland won this final 2-0.

Visitors from Kenya

2010

In November 2008, West Buckland School embarked on an ambitious tree planting project to mark National Tree Week.  North Devon MP Nick Harvey planted the first of the 1625 native broadleaved trees on the school site, everyone else who planted a tree paid £2 in sponsorship which enabled us to fund the planting of 2008 trees at our partnership school, Agoro Oyombe Secondary School, in Kenya.

We were pleased to welcome Mr Frederick Odhiambo and Mr Josiah Marakulu from Agoro Oyombe just before half term, a shock for them both to have left Kenya in blistering heat to be greeted by sub zero West Buckland temperatures.  They spent two weeks with us immersing themselves in school life, spending time with the pupils, watching various sporting events and experiencing a different culture.

At the end of their stay Frederick and Josiah planted a tree each on the original site.

Hats for Haiti

2010

On Wednesday 27th January, West Buckland School were joined by the Rotary Club of Barnstaple to raise money for the charity Shelterbox. Pupils from the Senior and Preparatory Schools were asked to wear hats in return for a donation.   The students and staff also took part in a ‘Hunger Lunch’ of just soup and bread with the money saved from this frugal lunch going to this worthwhile charity, enabling them to send more of these boxes to Haiti.

Over £4,000 was raised from this event.
